Many a time
I have walked alone
on the beach
following the sun
as it sets.
Leaving footprints
as I walk
the sand grains cling
and the waves touch
rinsing my feet
from time to time.
I pick a shell or two
then look up to the sky
towards the sun
that still glows
after it’s day’s glory
tired as it descends.
The shades change
from a mellow yellow
to a blazing orange
turning the sun into
a ball of fire.
I sit by the rocks
watching the sun go down
just sit and think about things
giving my thoughts some wings
the beauty of the sunset
brings me back
to a sight extraordinary.
I do not hear
the sun
as it slowly sinks
into the horizon
lighting up the sky
and the water below.
The glow slowly fading
darkness embracing
night creeps in
I wait for another
day to begin.
